TAAF launched in 2014 as an independent festival and has had 13 iterations. It was an evolution of the Tokyo Anime Award, which was part of the Tokyo International Anime Fair from 2002-2013.
TAAF's X (formerly Twitter ) account and YouTube channel will shut down on September 30. Its website will become an archival site from September 30 onward.
The festival honored Kenshi Yonezu with an award for Best Sound/Performance in the Anime of the Year division this year. It recognized four of Yonezu's theme song contributions to anime over the past year: "Plazma" from Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX , "Bow and Arrow" from Medalist , and "Iris Out" and "Jane Doe" from Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc . "Jane Doe" is a collaboration with Hikaru Utada .
Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX won the television category and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle - Akaza Sairai, the first film in the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle trilogy , won the animated film category.
The judges chose from titles that debuted in whole or in part between October 1, 2024 and September 30, 2025.
