Guyver's Yoshiki Takaya May No Longer Be Able to Create Manga After Cerebral Infarction, Partial Paralysis

In Toy Robot's new Blu-ray Disc release of the Guyver 2: Dark Hero live-action film based on Yoshiki Takaya 's Bio-Booster Armor Guyver manga on Tuesday, Takaya provided the following message to fans:

"I suffered a cerebral infarction, and paralysis remains on the right side of my body. There is also damage to my brain, and as a result my concentration and judgement have declined, while my short-term memory has become unreliable. To all the fans, I am truly sorry, but I do not believe I will ever be able to take up the pen again."

Takaya put the Bio-Booster Armor Guyver manga on hiatus in 2016. The message on Toy Robot's Blu-ray Disc did not specify when Takaya suffered the cerebral infarction.

Takaya launched the manga in Tokuma Shoten 's Shonen Captain magazine in 1985, before it moved publishers to Kadokawa under its Monthly Ace Next magazine in 1999, where it ran until 2002. The manga resumed in Kadokawa 's Shōnen Ace magazine in 2007, and moved to Young Ace in 2012.

The late Screaming Mad George directed the first 1991 live-action film based on the manga. Steve Wang directed the 1994 Guyver 2: Dark Hero live-action sequel.

The manga also inspired an OVA series from 1989-1992 and a television anime from 2005-2006. Viz Media released part of the manga in English from 1995-1998, Manga Entertainment released the OVAs in North America, and ADV Films and later FUNimation Entertainment released the television anime.
