Musician Kōsei Abe announced on Sunday that his father, manga artist Shin'ichi Abe , had died on September 4 from submandibular gland cancer. The family held a private funeral with close family members. He was 76.
Abe began his career in 1970 with the Yasashii Hito manga and was active through the '70s.
His works include Aihasu no Kazoku , contributions to AX: Alternate Manga , That Miyoko Asagaya Feeling, and more.
Glacier Bay Books publishes That Miyoko Asagaya Feeling in English.
The Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards nominated the manga in the Best Archival Collection/Project—Comic Books award category in 2020.
The title inspired a live-action film adaptation in 2009.
