New Detective Conan Anime Special Lets Fans Deduce Culprit

A livestreamed 30th anniversary special for the Detective Conan anime announced on Saturday that a new original Detective Conan anime special will air in Japan. For the first time in the franchise , this Misohitojima no Satsujin (The Misohitojima Murder Case) anime will have viewers attempt to deduce the culprit. Director Yasuichirō Yamamoto conceived the concept for the project and drew the rough illustrations below of the title island and story setting. Frequent franchise contributor Takahiro Ōkura ( Lupin the 3rd Part 6 ) wrote the script.

Saturday's livestreamed special also announced that Detective Conan: 30-gō Satsujin Jiken (The Counterfeit Case of Ultra 30) , the franchise 's first new two-hour special in 10 years, will air on NTV and its affiliates' "Kinyō Roadshow" (a programming block usually reserved for films) on September 25 at 9:00 p.m. (8:00 a.m. EDT). Elaiza Ikeda (live-action Doronjo, Sadako) will be a guest voice cast member.

In the September 25 special, Conan and the others take on a threat to the nation — the release of counterfeit bills. They visit the National Printing Bureau in Nagano, and then Conan and Heiji head to Osaka where the counterfeit bills were apparently printed.

Gōshō Aoyama launched the manga in Shogakukan 's Weekly Shounen Sunday magazine in 1994. The manga has spawned a television anime that has been running since January 1996, as well as an accompanying anime film series. Viz Media publishes the manga under the name Case Closed , Funimation 's original localized title. The English manga release uses the same English names from the original Funimation dub when applicable, and it uses the original Japanese names otherwise.

The manga series centers on Conan Edogawa, the alias of detective Shinichi Kudo, whose body shrunk after being poisoned at the beginning of the story. Together with detective Kogoro Mori and his daughter Ran, Conan helps the police solve difficult mysteries.
