LOCUS Animation Studio announced on August 20 it will release Guardians of the Video Game , a theatrical animated film based on Gasfard's webtoon of the same name, in theaters across South Korea in October.

The film follows Patch, an ace agent responsible for setting up worlds inside video games. After being reassigned to the department overseeing classic games, Patch enters the 8-bit game "Legend of the Dragon Sword" to prevent it from being shut down.

LOCUS Animation Studio, known for Red Shoes and The Priest , is producing the film. The studio has also released a launch poster and trailer.

Originally serialized from 2014 to 2021, Gasfard's Guardians of the Video Game has accumulated 340 million views globally and an average rating of 9.98. The film adaptation reimagines the webtoon's distinctive game-world setting through 3D animation combined with pixel-art visuals.

The story of the original webtoon reads:

Within the wires and pixels of your favorite video game lies an unsuspecting protector. Patch is the top guardi-agent at the Guardians of the Video Game Corporation, working hard to keep games running at all costs. That is, until his promotion is ruined by office politics and he's assigned to the obsolete Classic Games department. Nevertheless, Patch is determined to fulfill his responsibilities as a guardian.

Fans can read the official English version of the webtoon on WEBTOON .
